Discipleship Strategy: Helping New Christians Grow Spiritually

1. Connect – Welcoming New Believers

Goal: Help people feel seen, supported, and connected from their first visit.

  • Personal follow-up from the ministry team within 48 hours.

  • Invite to a “New Believers Gathering” or “Welcome to the Family” class.

  • Pair with a spiritual mentor or prayer partner for encouragement and accountability.

2. Grow – Establishing Spiritual Foundations

Goal: Teach essential truths and habits of the Christian faith.

  • Offer a short course or small group (e.g., Foundations of Faith, Next Steps).

  • Cover core topics like salvation, prayer, the Bible, worship, community, and serving.

  • Encourage daily devotion, Bible reading, and journaling.

3. Belong – Building Relationships in Community

Goal: Help people grow in faith through authentic relationships.

  • Place new believers in life groups, Bible studies, or Sunday school classes.

  • Emphasize fellowship and shared spiritual growth (Acts 2:42–47 model).

  • Create spaces where people can ask questions, learn, and be discipled personally.

4. Serve – Developing Spiritual Gifts

Goal: Help believers discover purpose and contribute to the church’s mission.

  • Offer a Discover Your Purpose or Spiritual Gifts class.

  • Involve them in ministry opportunities early (ushering, worship, outreach, etc.).

  • Reinforce that growth happens when we give and serve others.

5. Multiply – Equipping to Disciple Others

Goal: Raise mature believers who disciple others.

  • Train leaders to mentor and teach new believers.

  • Launch small discipleship groups where growth is relational and ongoing.

  • Encourage each believer to invest in someone else’s spiritual journey.
